Students from the Mohawk High School FFA chapter gave a presentation on making apple butter at the Lawrence County Conservation District annual awards lunch Jan. 8. The presentation included everything from getting the apples to canning the final product.
Rhonda Farmer, secretary of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau, presented all the fixings for a Christmas dinner to Fleming House residents Lori Zimmerly and Cristy Phillips. The gift included everything necessary to provide a holiday meal for all the residents of the house.
Witmer’s Inc. of Columbiana, Ohio, recently held a Christmas food drive for The Way Station. The company’s goal was to fill a Pequea manure spreader with nonperishable food and, in the end, more than 360 items were collected. Those who donated food were placed in a drawing for prizes, including a Massey Ferguson pedal tractor. […]
The Country Friends 4-H club joined Evelyn Houserman for a worship and song service Dec. 7 at Parkside Health Center in Columbiana, Ohio.
Black River FFA recently held its annual canned food drive. Classes competed to see which one could donate the most food and the Advanced Ag class came out on top. The chapter collected 358 total cans of food, which was donated to the West Salem food bank.
It seems like fair days just a dot on the horizon right now, but 4-H’ers and FFA students with steer projects are already looking ahead to summer. Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia haven’t seen too many signs of summer lately, but these sunflowers certainly brightened our day. We’re patiently waiting for warmer weather to return.
