My wife and I are very blessed because both of our parents and our grandparents were very generous people. My father used to say about people who were very generous, “They would give you their last dollar if you needed it or the shirt off their back.” I am convinced that generosity is passed down […]
My wife Myrna was making some homemade soup the other day and I asked her why she was using a particular ingredient in it. She replied to me by saying “because that is what the recipe calls for.” She went on to explain to me that the soup will only taste good providing you follow […]
Do you remember when you were a little child and people would ask you the question, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” I recall being asked that question many times. Some of the professions of interest to me at that time were farmer, carpenter, mechanic, plumber, business man and many more. […]
Nothing is more pleasing to me as a pastor on a Sunday morning than to see people carrying to church their Bible. It is an indication to me that they have come to church prepared to learn the Word of God. When I attend a conference or a special meeting I always enjoy having an […]
I would like you to think about a special person in your life who has been a very good example to you. Take a moment and think today how they have been a good example to you. Perhaps that person no longer lives on this earth because they have gone to be with the Lord. […]
I often wonder to myself if dedication is becoming an old-fashioned word which we just wink at, go on our way and do as we please?
As a retired minister I have officiated at many funeral services and tried my very best to bring comfort to those who mourn. During the death of my sister, I was reminded, as I have reminded others, of the great comfort of God to each of us.
One of my grandfather’s favorite songs many years ago was the song, This Old House by Stuart Hamblin. He especially liked the words and he said they reminded him of his own life.
This is the season of exchanging of gifts. Every Christmas many friends, relatives and neighbors exchange Christmas gifts in celebration of Christmas. About October of every year we begin to talk about our gift exchange.
If you are anything like me I cannot believe how quickly the year 2011 passed by. It seems like the older I get the faster the year’s pass by.
Have we forgotten that there is a bright side to life? I don’t need to remind you winter is on its way. How many times have you heard people moan and groan when you mention old man winter? I must confess that I am guilty.
When I was a child, there were times when I was guilty of complaining about something. My Mother would say to me, “George, be thankful for what you have.” I was always thankful for what I had, however, sometimes I would forget to count my blessings. How easy it is to forget that “Every good […]
It was about a year ago that God laid it upon my heart to give each member of my family one of my Bibles that I used over the years of my ministry. Some of the Bibles were pretty well worn, however, the Holy Word of God in them never changed.
How Old Are You? Did you ever wonder why we always ask the question, “How old are you?” I guess it is because we never grow younger, we always grow older. I remember well the days when I was a young man and my grandfather would remind me that I was not dry behind the […]
It is always a real source of encouragement to be around a person who makes a positive difference in your life. These kinds of people have a special way of making your day better and brighter.
It seems harvest time came very quickly this year. It was by all means a very unusual summer. Just about the time you made plans to either plant or harvest, we had to deal with rain.
Are we forgetting to express our appreciation to each other in this new day of self service and automation?
I cannot believe how quickly the summer of 2011 passed by. It seems like just a few weeks ago that we planted our garden, and now it is all gone and cleaned up for another year.
I arose early this morning, plugged in the coffee pot, turned on the morning news, poured a cup of coffee and then I realized just how fortunate I really am. The newsman was quite discouraging, as he reported the many losses due to the storms and flood damage along the East Coast. He then reported […]
With all that is taking place in our world today sometimes it is not always easy to cheer up. About the time you think things are going well suddenly out of nowhere the bottom falls out.
