Hello Again!
It is always nice to visit with our families and friends on Thanksgiving, and even better to graze on the food that everyone brings to share. We are thankful for all that we have and the opportunity to serve our farmers in this great country.
A portion of our Ohio has a new program called State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) that offers land owners and operators in designated geographical areas the opportunity to offer cropland for enrollment in a new continuous Conservation Reserve Program.
USDA’s Farm Service Agency began the sign-up for SAFE in Ohio on a continuous basis in November for portions of Adams, Erie, Fulton, Henry, Highland, Holmes, Lucas, Marion, Ottawa, Pike, Ross, Sandusky, Trumbull, Wayne, Williams, and Wyandot counties.
SAFE is a set of wildlife management practices specifically designed by Ohio conservation organizations and agencies to build and restore habitats to support declining populations of wildlife and ecosystems in priority focus areas.
To be eligible for SAFE, cropland must be physically located in one of the priority focus areas. Cropland must have been cropped 4 of 6 years between 1996 and 2001, and cropland need not be classified as highly erodible.
