Just a few days before Christmas Sunday this year, my sister, Shirley Kreinbrook, went home to be with the Lord. She was a wonderful person and loved and served God with all her heart. We will all miss her very much, however her suffering has ended and her journey on this earth has been completed.
Romans 8:18 says, “I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
As a retired minister I have officiated at many funeral services and tried my very best to bring comfort to those who mourn. During the recent death of my sister, I was reminded, as I have reminded others, of the great comfort of God to each of us.
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted” II Cor 1:3,4.
None of us know when we will face those times of sorrow. I remind you that when those times come our way, God will be there to see us through. “Let not your heart be troubled ye believe in God; believe also in me” John 14:1.
Do you remember when you were a child how safe you felt when your parent was nearby? Just knowing they were there gave you a special comfort that no one else could replace. That is how it is in our relationship with God. He is always with us. “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” Matt. 28:20.
When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources,
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.
His love has no limit; His grace has no measure,
His power has no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth and giveth again.

When I read the words of that hymn, the last line reminds me over and over of God’s love and comfort in my time of sorrow and heartache. “He giveth, and giveth and giveth again.”
