Hazard A Guess: Week of Aug. 21, 2003

Hello from Hazard!

Well the stormy weather mirrors the murky confusion regarding Item No. 688, which, I guess, we still can’t identify.

We thought we had it pegged as a hay or straw puller, according to one reader (the only brave soul to hazard a guess), but reader Don Ringer of Cambridge, Ohio, has his doubts that that’s what it is. “It is much too sophisticated and well made to be that [a hay puller] and, of course, much too small,” Ringer writes. Plus, he adds, a hay puller wouldn’t have had a hook guard.

So, we’re right back where we started from: without an answer for Walter Whitmire of Butler, Pa., (who shared it via Tom Downing of Ellwood City, Pa.).

With a fresh start, let’s take a look at an item from Les Howell of Beach City, Ohio.

If you know what Item No. 689 is, jot us a note at: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
