Happy Hazard-ous Holidays!
Well, we’re not exactly wishing you a hazardous holiday. Quite the opposite. Let’s just say, all of us in Hazard a Guess-dom wish our Hazard a Guess readers a wonderful Christmas and happy new year!
We think we have an “aha!” on Item No. 609, which received two different guesses last week. Frank Walko of Wellington, Ohio, and Sam Van Der Hoeven of Garrettsville both agree: It’s used to cut and crimp thin pieces of cardboard to pack eggs.
“I used it as a child,” writes Mr. Van Der Hoeven. “The thin cardboard pieces were precut and all you had to do was put the cardboard in place and pull the handle and it would fold it to hold the eggs.”
He still has one in working order and likes to have friends guess what it is when they visit. “Most people think it has to do with pasta, but when I tell them it has to do with chickens, they think it is to de-neck them!”
