Hazard A Guess: Week of Feb. 5, 2009

Hello from Hazard!

We’re thinking our loyal hazard-ous fans must be buried in drifts of snow, because the mailbag is nearly empty again this week.

We did receive one more guess on the use of Item No. 853 from Kathy Breychak in Columbia Station, Ohio. She thinks the item looks like it had the tip heated while in use, which might make sense if the item is a tail docking iron or a blacksmithing tool. Hey, that’s two guesses, but we’ll take them both and wait to see if next week brings a more definitive answer.

Last week’s guess said the tool might be a lamp wick trimmer; let us hear from you this week if you agree with any of these guesses or have one of your own.

The next in line, Item No. 854, got one guess this week from James Miller of Louisville, Ohio. Miller said the contraption looks like a sausage stuffer.

Do you think he’s right? If you know what it is, write to: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail to: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
