Hello from Hazard!

We hope you are all working and playing smart in this sweltering heat – take lots of breaks, drink lots of water and try to stay out of the sun. Check frequently on elderly neighbors, friends and loved ones.

At least thinking about Item No. 654 can cool you down. Robert Smith of Southington, Ohio; John Stanley of Middlefield, Ohio; and Joseph Fox of Hartville, Ohio, each correctly identified the gizmo, submitted by Gailey Henderson of Williamstown, W.Va., as a pressurized water well hand pump hose adapter. The fitting hooks to an old hand pump to connect a water hose.

We also heard from several readers who also correctly identified Item No. 653, the night watchman’s clock: Gid Detweiler of Mechanicstown, Ohio; John Scott, Carrollton, Ohio; Clair Campbell, Grove City, Pa.; James Buss, Renfrew, Pa.; and Eddie Hawks, Ashland, Ohio. Many thanks to you all.

Now, take a look at Item Number 655, shared by Wally Krauss of South Madison, Ohio. If you think you know what it was specifically used for, send your answers to: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail to: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
