Hello from Hazard!

Well, this is the trouble we get into when we have a true mystery item: Three readers responded with three different responses to Item No. 622.

The first to respond was Ted Anielski from Killbuck Township, who guessed it was an oarlock. Then, we heard from Joe Betz of Library, Pa., who, through a process of elimination, supposes it is a handle to open the top plate on a potbelly stove, or a handle to open the oven on a wood-burning or similar stove.

Finally, Fred Heaberlin of New Castle, Pa., told us it is a tool to hold a shock absorber apart so the mechanic can replace the shock.

You be the judge.

And against my better judgment, I’m following that mystery item with yet another one. Item No. 623 was submitted by Russell May of Lowell, Ohio. Take a good look and let us know what you think.
