Hazlett: Your call

YOUR CALL

Have you ever made a telephone call and instead of talking to a person you discovered you were talking to a machine? The machine did not say, “hello, how are you today?”

No one said to you, “thank you for calling, how can I help you?” However you heard a recorded message that said, “I am sorry we cannot take your call however, your call is important to us so please leave a message.”

The first thing that I think about is, “If my call is important, then why not provide someone to talk to me about the importance of my call?” Really, that is why I called in the first place.

Obviously, you can tell that I am not very fond of telephone answering services. I would much rather talk to a real human being. However, I realize this is a new day with new devices to make the things of life more convenient.

We have an answering machine in our home like most people. We always do our best to return the call as soon as possible. Do not misunderstand me, I really do appreciate all the new means of communication. However, it is a real pleasure when I make a phone call to have a live voice answering my call with a live “hello.”

I was thinking just a few days ago just how great God is to both me and also my family. The thought came to me that I never called on God in prayer and got His answering service. He has always been there for me and has assured me He is always my help in the time of trouble.

Job 19:25 says, “I know that my Redeemer liveth.” In Psalm 121: 4 it says, “Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

My friend, God is always available to hear you when you call on Him. “If God be for us, who can be against us,” Romans 8:31. “The Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed; a refuge in times of trouble,” Psalm 9:9.

God reminds us daily in His Word that our call is important to Him. “Then call and I will answer or let me speak, then you respond to me” Job 13:22.
