Considerable excitement has been caused by the discovery of gold on the N.G. Davis farm near Woodsfield, Ohio.
Officers elected to the Ohio Holstein-Friesian Association were: president, Dr. H.P. Gooding, Tiffin; vice presidents, J.C. Burr, Wauseon; O.O. Zehring, Germantown; Dr. Benjamin Studer, Orrville; executive secretary, Dr. H.O. Frederick, Ashtabula; treasurer, H.B. Barker, Tiffin.
50 years ago this week.
It takes a mighty good farmer to raise nearly 40 head of cattle on 59 acres of land. But this is just what two brothers are doing. In fact, the animals have done so well on alfalfa, ground corn, and molasses, these farmers have not thought it necessary to feed supplement.
By profession, W.C. and B.L. Kutz, who farm in northwest Columbiana County, are custom threshers. With the advent of the combine, however, their livelihood was threatened. But they soon were in business again with a dairy herd. Three years ago these were lost in a test. It was then that the Kutzs turned to raising beef.
They plan to concentrate on Herefords. The entire herd is good, grade stock since these farmers have no designs on entering the registered business. Their herd sire was purchased as a calf at a sale.
25 years ago this week.
Millions watched the TV story of President Kennedy’s funeral and remember the shiny black horse with the riderless saddle which walked behind the caisson. The horse was Black Jack, and he had performed in hundreds of funerals, but his career is ended. He was so ill and feeble at the age of 29, that Army veterinarians decided it would be a kindness to end his life.
