80 years ago this week.
Four farmers from Trumbull County, three from Portage County, two from Stark County and two from Medina County spent a long day crossing Columbiana County in the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation $10 membership drive: Glen Bingham, Farmdale; J.H. Bollinger, Girard; Frank Hiland, Kinsman; C.A. Booth, Wayland; O.L. Diver, Deerfield; Walter Somers, Ravenna; A.B. Mase, Navarre; S.S. Domer, Navarre; J.T. Mayer, Valley City; and F.H. Weidner, Valley City. They were joined by state membership drive leader E.E. Jackson of Adams County and local leader, Clark Halverstadt of Leetonia. The group signed up 1,350 new members.
50 years ago this week.
On June 1 the ownership of Rural Supply, Middleton, in Columbiana County, passed from James Cooper to Ted Pfeifer. Cooper had purchased the Hites farm west of town.
About 50 years ago Cyrus Cooper and David Morland started the business and today there is a huge stock of merchandise in over 40 departments. Pfeifer came to Ohio from Utica, N.Y., and became a partner in Rural Supply four years ago.
Older persons will remember when the east part of the store was the blacksmith shop of Harvey Woods and that much of the remaining building formerly was the home of Mary Ann Cannel.

David Spahr, Spahr Jersey Farm, Findlay, Ohio, has been selected as a first recipient of the Young Jersey Dairyman Award inaugurated this year by The American Jersey Cattle Club. Presentation will be made at the awards breakfast during the 108th annual meeting of the organization at the Ingleside Inn, Staunton, Va., June 19
