Fordson tractor dealers of Stark and adjoining counties will hold a demonstration of the tractor and various farm implements at the Stark County Fairgrounds.
The Ohio Secretary of Agriculture will ask the emergency board to purchase 40 acres of land for $32,000 to expand the Ohio state fairgrounds.
50 years ago this week.
The greatest problem facing the American farmer today is uncertainty. Unlike many other businessmen, the farmer must plan for years ahead in his crop and livestock program. Decisions made today will affect his pocketbook for years to come.
Yet there never was a time when the farmer was so uncertain of his future. He does not know whether he is going to get adequate production supplies; he does not know whether there will be enough labor to harvest his crops; he does not know whether he will receive a fair price for his harvest. Granted these are abnormal times. Many controls have been placed on agriculture which threatened to cut down production. One proposal is that farmers give up parity and accept production payments instead. This proposal is unfair to farmers. All they ask is a fair price in the market place for their products. They do not want subsidies from government which bring them obnoxious restrictions, unreasonable requirements and imponderable regulations.
25 years ago this week.
Roy Landsberger of Kensington in Columbiana County caught the state record largemouth bass in a Carroll County farm pond on May 26, 1976. Landsberger’s catch weighs 13 pounds, 2 ounces and measures 251/16 inches long. The previous Ohio record largemouth bass weighed 10 pounds, 11 ounces.
