The Ohio State dairy judging team won the National Dairy show dairy products competition in Chicago. Arthur Neu of Georgetown was high individual and Talbott Armstrong of Cincinnati was third individually. Other team members were J.C. Regelsberger of Elyria and Homer Kline of Swanton. The team was coached by Don S. Kochheiser, OSU faculty member.
Also at the National Dairy show, the Belmont County cattle judging team won first place honors. Team members were Walter Mason, Helen Greenlee, Mary Dixon and Edward Bailey.
50 years ago this week.
The Ohio Reclamation Association has ordered 1.2 million trees from the Ohio Division of Forestry for planting on the strip mine lands of its members next spring. Plans call for the seeding of several hundred acres in addition to the tree planting. Species ordered are black walnut, tulip tree, black locust, sycamore, red oak, chestnut oak, white oak, multiflora rose, and white, jack, pitch and red pine.
The Ohio Reclamation Association is composed of more than 90 strip mine operators. Since 1945 its members have reclaimed each year more land than was mined in the preceding year by all coal strip mine operators.
25 years ago this week.
The top selling cow at the Northern Ohio Milk Foundation Sale Oct. 17 sold for $1,200. She was consigned by Rupert Jerseys, a J.F.D. Empire daughter that made 9,610 pounds of milk in her first lactation and scored 85. The buyer was Robert Reno of Enon Valley, Pa.
