WHAT IS WEALTH?

When you stop and think about it, one of the highest goals of mankind today is to become wealthy. Have we allowed the desire to become wealthy crowd out our desire to serve God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength?

“For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” [Matthew 12:15].

I believe God wants us to prosper in this life. I thank God for those who have prospered and have become wealthy and have shared their wealth in helping others.

“But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God; for it is he that giveth the power to get wealth” [Deuteronomy 8:18]. In other words, if we become wealthy, let’s always remember to honor God and give thanks unto Him. To God be the glory! Great things he has done!

Often when we speak of wealth we think only of money. Wealth comes to us in many different ways. “A man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth” [Luke 12:15].

I have known people who did not prosper in financial wealth, but they had great wealth in wisdom and knowledge. They had a great amount of wealth in abilities, talents, and other gifts that God blessed them with. My father was not a wealthy man financially. However, God blessed him with a wealth of ability to repair things.

“No man can tell whether he is rich or poor by turning to his ledger. It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has” [Henry Ward Beecher].

The next time you think you’re not very wealthy, don’t count your houses, lands, and money. Count your many blessings. You will be surprised just how wealthy you really are.

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” [Matthew 19:20].
