My father used to say to me, “George you are never too old to learn something new.” The older I get the more I realize that’s very true. I enjoy learning something new every day. Take a few moments, sit down and relax and just think about some of the new things you have learned recently.
For example, a few years ago, our daughter Karen and her husband gave my wife and me a nice little Chevrolet Cobalt to be used as a second car. The little car gives us such great mileage that we hardly ever use our bigger car.
After some time of driving the Cobalt we could never find out how to open the trunk automatically, so we just assumed there was no push button to open it. From then on we just used the key. One day while I was cleaning the car I came across a little button hidden under the storage compartment so I pushed it and the trunk opened.
I learned something new and it made my day a little brighter. After finding the little button I thought to myself, “What next?” So I am still looking. What is next in your life today? Do you still have the desire to learn something new?
I always enjoyed hearing Louis Armstrong sing the song, It’s a Wonderful World. We sometimes forget just how wonderful it is if we fail to take the time to enjoy it. Everyday can be a new experience if we think “what next?”
Jakob Boehme said, “Open your eyes and the whole world is full of God.” No matter how young or old we may be there is always something new in life to learn. Robert Browning said, “‘Tis looking downward makes one dizzy.”
