I really appreciate all of the feedback. I do live in Muskingum County and have lived there for 2 years now. The "Farmlink" program is just what I was looking for. I had heard that there was something but I did not know what it was called or how to get information about it.
I dont generally post anything on any website, I have to say that you all have been great and I look forward to being a member of this community.

I am the Farmland Programs Coordinator at Countryside Conservancy and we have a program "FarmLink". It is the only one currently in the State of Ohio, and we do just that...link new/beginning farmers with retiring/exiting farmers. Check out our website, www.thefarmlandcenter.org, you can enroll as a farm seeker. If you want to know more, go to the web-site and e-mail the program manager.

Another possible source of information might be the county Farm Bureau: 740-452-2356 or 800-964-8184; mucfb@sbcglobal.net.

the more people you network with in that area, who know that you are legit and not a starry-eyed yuppie (does anyone use that word anymore?), the better your chances of connecting with the right person. Do you live in that area now?

There's also a program called "FarmLink" coordinated by The Farmland Center in NEOhio.
http://www.thefarmlandcenter.org/sell-a-farm.html

Here's a story F&D did on the program in 2008:
http://www.farmanddairy.com/news/farms-won%E2%80%99t-sink-thanks-to-farmlink/8920.html

Good luck!

I live in Muskingum County, but I do not know of any farms that fit what you want. It will probably be easier to buy some land. If I knew a little more as to what type of farm you wanted (crops, livestock, horses, size, price range...) I could keep an eye open for something.

The best place to find farms for sale would be to check the Zanesville Times Recorder classifieds, the Advertiser or the Farm & Dairy has some Muskingum County farms listed in it at times.

If you have any more questions, I'd be glad to help as much as I can.

I am posting for a number of reasons. I have a lot of questions and I am hoping that the community will help with some ideas.

I am looking for farm land in Muskingum County but I am looking for a farm where the farmer may be ready to retire and is not passing the business on to family members and does not want to see their land turned into a neighborhood.
Does anyone have any idea how I would find what i am looking for or where I might start looking.

I do not have any friends or contacts here in the county that live or work in farming so I am starting from scratch.

I want to the readers also know that I do know what I would be getting into, I am not going into this with some dreamy idea of farming. I worked on my grandfathers farm in Virginia as a teenager from ages 10 to 17 and I know about all of the work and the small financial return in most cases. I believe that farms are the backbone of this country and I dont want to see them die off.
