  1. Does anyone think the horse market is ever going to get back to where it was? It's definitely a buyers market right now...but bad for sellers.

  2. Prices won't get any better until the breeding is reduced and the economics make it affordable to own a horse. We still have a supply that far exceeds the demand. There are numerous poor quality equines being produced every year, and it takes just as much money to raise a poor quality equine as it does to raise a high quality equine.

For most folks, not including Amish, horses are a luxury item. When the economy suffers, the luxury items are the first be cut out of the consumer's budget.

Even though it's a buyers market, reality sets in when the buyer quickly realizes that it doesn't take long to spend more on feed, vet, farrier, etc than it cost to purchase the animal so that animal ends up back on the market for usually less than it was purchased for in hopes of a quick sale.

  3. The market is flooded with "free" horses. I don't know about you but I can't compete with "free". It is the horse racing industry that is dumping their unwanted horses on the market. They lost the only outlet they had when the horse slaughter plants were closed. So for now it is free broken down and outright dangerous horses for the public.

  4. I have two wonderful western saddles for sale. Two equally wonderful horses free with purchase of saddles!
