When is the last time you heard a Renaissance lute in a rock band? How about a progressive folk-acoustic rock band? GRAMMY-nominated lutenist Ronn McFarlane founded Ayreheart to write new music for the lute – the most popular instrument of the Renaissance – and make it accessible to a wider audience. Imagine two lutes, vocals, fretless electric bass & percussion. That’s Ayreheart’s signature sound: combining ancient and modern instruments in a new format. Ayreheart’s multi-instrumentalists broaden the sonic palette by including guitar, violin, mandolin, komuz, colascione and a whole range of world percussion instruments.
