$2,055 paid for top selling cow in Ohio National Ayrshire Fall Sale

CENTERBURG, Ohio – Buyers came from 10 states to the Ohio National Ayrshire Fall Sale Nov. 24 in Wooster, Ohio. A reception to celebrate the sale’s 25th anniversary was held in conjunction with the sale preview.

Gene Hall of Cushing, Okla., was the top volume buyer of the day purchasing four animals, including the sale topper. Lubbens Bravo Jocelyn, a 4-year-old cow consigned by Brian Weber of Wildersville, Tenn., was the top selling animal. Hall placed the final bid of $2,050.

Miller’s James BonBon, a fresh junior 2-year-old cow, consigned by Jack Miller of Bradner, Ohio, was the second high selling animal. Don Michael and Sons of Farmersville, Ohio, bought the young cow for $2000.

Steve Jones of Forest Hill, Md., bought Breezy Valley Anabelle for $1900. This Cornelius-bred heifer was consigned by Virginia Garwood of Mauckport, Ind.

Top volume buyers included Hall, Corrie Harlow of Horse Cave, Ky., and Eli Hershberger of Millersburg, Ohio, with four animals each. Nathan Vogel of Winchester, Ohio, and Joe Witscher of Marshall, Va., purchased three animals.

Calf sale. The sale concluded with the much anticipated Ohio National Jackpot Calf Sale. The five calves were paraded through the ring to begin the buyers choice bidding. Jonathon Johns of Franklin, Ky., placed the top bid of $1700 and selected Emerald Farms Cornelius Snobal. This intermediate calf was consigned by Logan Fenton of Winchester, Ohio.

Chris Ackley of New Holland, Ohio; Scott Sundberg of Andover, Ohio; and Jake Hein of Celina, Ohio, each purchased a jackpot calf for $1325 and Ranatta and Randee Russell of Hebron, Ohio, purchased the final calf for $1275.

Jackpot calf consignors included Logan Eades, Mechanicsburg, Ohio; Paul and Ardith Rinebold, Fostoria, Ohio; Fenton; Mary Beth Jump, Ada, Ohio; and Mick Miller, Bradner, Ohio.

The sale average was $1505.63 on 40 head of cows and bred heifers. Five jackpot calves averaged $1390. each.

Consignments. Other consignments selling for $1700 or more included:

Ayrdell’s Olympic 2 Minnie, consigned by Kristi Brown, Brinkhaven, Ohio, and bought by Steve Jones of Forest Hill, Md., $1800;

Spring View Blossom, consigned by Lorne and Irene Lantz of Wellesley, Ontario, Canada, and bought by Sean DiSimone, Greensburg, Ky., for $1700;

Royalcroft Adrianna 2, consigned by Dwayne and Elaine Smith of Wyoming, Ontario, Canada, and bought by Corrie Harlow, Horse Cave, Ky., for $1700;

Justamere El Diablo Katrina, consigned by Brian Weber of Wildersville, Tenn., and bought by Darren and Eric Otte, Columbus, Ind., for $1700;

Bar-J MMC Queen Elizabeth, consigned by Kristi Brown, Brinkhaven, Ohio, and bought by Nathan Vogel of Winchester, Ohio, for $1700;

Hartman’s PP Jolene Queen, consigned by William Hartman of Forest, Ohio, and bought by Dale Dirkson of Kenton, Ohio, for $1700.
