4-H dairy teams from Ohio take honors at North American contest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Invitational 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl took place Nov. 6-7 at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville. Ohio brought home the top honors in the youth Dairy Quiz Bowl. Teams from 20 states competed.

The Ohio team and their coaches were recognized Nov. 7 at a gala banquet. Team members included Rachel Townsley of Champaign County, Brandon Meier, Sam Weeman and Eileen Gress of Wayne County, and Billy Grammer (alternate) from Mahoning County. Coaches were Lisa Gress, Lorraine Townsley and Julie Martig.

Dairy judging

The Ohio 4-H dairy judging team was fourth overall at the North American contest There were 24 separate teams competing in this year’s event.

Team members included Dan Grim of Lorain county, Stacie Steel of Tuscarawas county, Eileen Gress of Wayne county and Rachel Townsley of Champaign county. Overall in the contest, Grim finished up as fifth high individual and Gress was in the top 20. The team finished third in Holsteins, fifth in Jerseys, seventh in Guernseys and seventh in reasons.

The team is coached by Bonnie Ayars, Extension Dairy program specialist and Kelly Epperly.
