LOUISVILLE, Ohio — The Stark County Dairy Judging Team traveled to Wooster, Ohio, Feb. 23 to participate in the Ohio State University Agricultural and Technical Institute Dairy Judging Contest.
Fourteen members competed, placing third out of 23 teams.
Four members placed in the top 20: Mike Hohman of Louisville, third; Lauren Hohman of Louisville, 11th; Brittany Schulz of Alliance, 16th; and Elizabeth Conrad of Louisville, 19th out of 109 participants.

NORTH BENTON, Ohio — The Village Varieties 4-H Club met Feb. 19 at the North Benton Presbyterian Church in North Benton.
The election of officers was held at the meeting.
The officers for 2008 are: John Wilson, president; Kathy Phillips, vice president; Olivia Jarvis, secretary; Rebekah Owen, assistant secretary; Emily Theil, treasurer; Jonathon James, news reporter; Sarah Owen, assistant news reporter; Jared Jarvis, health officer; Logan Jarvis, safety officer; Lillian Wood, devotions officer; Valerie Weingart, demonstrations officer; Breanna Winters, recreation officer; and Luke Jones, refreshments officer.
A resolution passed on giving $25 to state fair participants to help pay expenses.
A resolution also passed on sponsoring a 4-H camper scholarship.
The 4-H project books will be in by the next meeting.
The group discussed the horse symposium Feb. 23 and the mandatory quality assurance meeting at Canfield High School March 1 for all market projects.
The next meeting is at 7 p.m. March 11 at North Benton Presbyterian Church in North Benton.

BELLAIRE, Ohio — The Ridge Riders 4-H club met Feb. 18 at the home of Gregory and Jordan Mehlman. Members talked about the 4-H Under Construction program they attended.
The club was presented with the Club of Distinction award. It will put up a display at the Bellaire Public Library for 4-H week.
Jordan Mehlman gave a safety presentation on electricity. Gregory Mehlman gave a health presentation about proper dental care.
The next meeting will be March 17 at the home of Jerod and Josh Crawford.

CARROLLTON, Ohio — The New Horizons 4-H club met Feb. 15 at Dellroy School. Members voted to make a donation to the Stuart Brown Memorial.
Bethany Renicker gave a presentation on chain saw safety. Courtney McDaniel gave a presentation on electric table saw and equipment safety. John McDaniel talked about how to safely operate a remote control vehicle.
The club’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. March 28 at Dellroy School. The agenda includes officer training and distribution of project books.

CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Kilgore Rangers 4-H club met Feb. 24, with several reports being given.
Kali Weals demonstrated how to show a steer and gave a talk on how to care for cattle. Lauren Keefer gave a presentation on food preparation.
The club’s committee and sub-committee also gave reports.
Club members discussed rule changes for the 2008 Carroll County Fair. Projects can be changed until March 30.
The next meeting will be 2-3 p.m. March 16 at the home of Julie Davis. The club will have a pizza party using the money it won for the Best 4-H Window during 4-H Kickoff Week.

CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Sharpshooters 4-H club met Feb. 18. New members were welcomed and the club elected officers for 2008.
The group also decided on projects for the year.
The next meeting is at 1 p.m. March 8 at the Brown Township Sportsmen’s Club. There will be a meeting and a sampler day shoot.

NORTH BENTON, Ohio — The Mahoning County Goat Herders 4-H club met recently at the O’Brock Farm.
Members talked about their concession stand at the dog show Feb. 17 and discussed sponsoring a goat for the “heifer” project.
Elizabeth Wyss provided demonstrations.
Members were reminded of Angel Food Ministry Dates for this year. All begin at 9 a.m. March 29, April 26, May 31, June 28, July 26, Aug. 23, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 22 and Dec. 20.
The club’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. March 10.

NEWBURY, Ohio — The Geauga Beef and Swine 4-H club met Feb. 17.
Greg Spear, one of the swine advisers, began the swine meeting by giving a presentation on what happens to young pigs following birth. He also discussed large farrowing facilities in Ohio.
There will be a new routine for hog tagging this year. Now all hogs have to be tagged at the Geauga County Fairgrounds May 17. Pictures will be taken of the hog and the 4-H member.
Geauga Beef and Swine will be doing fundraisers this year. Car washes will take place at Tractor Supply Company in Chardon and the dates will be determined later.
The club will also be selling Little Caesar’s pizza starting in March.
Show Rite Feeds from the Animal Food Warehouse offers the club rebates for using their feed.
Members will be doing a community service project of making Easter cards for the elderly and shut-ins.
The beef members were informed that there will be an Ashtabula preview show April 12. The Beef Expo will be held in Columbus March 14-16. The skillathon will be held at the Geauga Fairgrounds July 26.
Advisers spoke about the goals for this year.

BURTON, Ohio — Flockmasters 4-H club held its Feb. 19 meeting at the fairgrounds. Older members showed disease posters.
Presenting their projects were: Hannah Fenn, avian pox; George Hess, coccidioses; Kristen Peschke, gapeworm; Kaylen Ward, Newcastle Disease; Madeleine Ray, dactylariosis; Allison Klein, mohiliasis; Jackie Petosek, joint ill; Alex Beach, hoof rot; Christina Babcock, White Muscle Disease.
A group was formed to make a 4-H window display and members discussed making plans for Earth Day.
Flockmasters will be bowling from 1-3 p.m. March 9 at Ernst Lanes in Chardon.
