PENINSULA, Ohio - Tickets are on sale for trips between Akron Northside Station in downtown Akron and the new Canton Lincoln Highway Station on Tuscarawas Boulevard in downtown Canton on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

Regular service is scheduled to begin July 5 and run every Saturday and Sunday through Aug. 24.

Trips will begin with a departure from Akron Northside Station on weekends beginning at 9 a.m., with two complete round trips each running day.

Passengers boarding in Akron will have the opportunity to take a 3 1/2-hour scenic ride twice each day, or choose a 4 1/2-hour layover in Canton.

More to do. During the layover, they may choose to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Canton Classic Car Museum, McKinley Museum and Monument, Canton Museum of Art and the National First Ladies Library.

Admission to all attractions is not included in the train ticket price.

There are also a number of area restaurants available. Stark Area Regional Transit Authority will be providing the transportation, which will include a loop service between all of the venues and restaurants.

Canton options. Passengers boarding in Canton will have the opportunity to take a 3 1/2-hour scenic ride to Canton and back once each day.

Due to the fact that scheduling will not permit Canton riders to get off the train to visit Akron venues and return by train to Canton the same day, SARTA will be providing riders service to the venues and a bus ride back to Canton for passengers choosing to layover in Akron.

Overnight packages. The railroad is currently in the process of creating overnight packages with various attractions in Akron for Saturday night events with a return by train to Canton on Sunday.

Tickets prices for excursions between Akron and Canton have been established as follows:

* Trip with layover from either direction: Adults, $20; seniors, $18; children, $12 (ages 3 -12).

* Scenic (3 1/2 hours from either direction): Adults, $11; seniors. $10; children, $7 (ages 3 -12).
