Alternative crops highlighted at Nov. 19 seminar

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Ohio State University Extension office in Medina County is offering a “Money Makers For Your Acres” seminar Nov. 19, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at OARDC Fisher Auditorium in Wooster.

Kathy Smith, OSU Extension forestry associate, will discuss agroforestry, including alley cropping and riparian buffers.

Thomas and Wendy Wiandt will talk about their experience growing and marketing specialty mushrooms. Bob Calala from the Ohio Aquaculture Association will discuss opportunities in fish farming.

John Ellerman, OSU Extension marketing specialist, will outline marketing options for adding value to production and Steve Sears from the Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association will discuss the standards for organic certification.

Registration is $20 per person and includes lunch. Pre-registration with payment is required by Nov. 13; no walk-in or late registrations will be accepted.
