COLUMBUS – These aren’t your ordinary pets. They can talk back, live to be 100 and eat some of the same foods you do.

When and where.

Birds from around the country will fly into the Ohio Expo Center for the Mid-American Exotic Bird Show to be held Feb. 25 in the Rhodes Center.

The Mid-American Exotic Bird Society is host to this show that is perfect for bird owners and those in the market to purchase an exotic bird.

“Birds are excellent pets and companions,” said Donna Vitale, president of the Mid-American Bird Society. “Our group is dedicated to helping people find the exotic bird that fits their lifestyle.”

The show is the ideal place to purchase a new feathered friend. Several breeders from as far away as Florida will be on hand to help you find the bird that best suits your lifestyle.

What about these birds?

Members of the society will have birds from South America (macaws and Amazons), Australia (cockatiels and cockatoos), and Africa (Congo African Greys and Senegals).

Buying directly from breeders can reduce expense while delivering a healthier bird. Breeders can answer any questions you may have and can refer you to an avian veterinarian in your area.

In addition to birds, the show includes a number of vendors who sell bird-related items such as toys, play gyms, cages, seeds, vitamins, T-shirts and other miscellaneous items.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and children under 12 are admitted free.
