COLUMBUS — The Spring Dairy Expo featured five breed sales that kept the sale ring busy March 28-30.
Ayrshire
The 2013 edition of the Buckeye Classic Ayrshire sale, co-hosted by the Buckeye Dairy Club and the Ohio Ayrshire Breeders, featured 35 lots that sold for an average of $1,283.
The top seller at $2,300 was Hillside Drew Blizzard, a fall yearling consigned by Christopher Wayne Thomas, Ky., and sold to Rachel Ramaly, Pa., who also took home the second high seller, JSB-Acres Azarah, a winter yearling from Joey Bransetter, Ky., for $2,300.
Guernsey
The Buckeye Classic Guernsey Sale, co-hosted by Buckeye Dairy Club and the Ohio Guernsey Association, featured 14 live lots and two embryo packages.
The live lots averaged $2,182, with Coulee Crest Turley Leah-ET, a winter calf consigned by Coulee Crest LLC, Cashton, Wis., topping the sale at $4,200.
She was purchased by Spring Walk Farm, Big Prairie, who also paid $3,000 for the second high seller, Warwick Manor Adacka Brandy, a junior two-year-old from Taylor and Kenna Thormaehlen and Hannah and Connor Budd, Dalton.
Holstein
The Buckeye Classic Elite Holstein Sale , co-hosted by Buckeye Dairy Club and the Ohio Holstein Association, featured a group of 56 Holstein live lots that sold for an average of $1,822.
The auctioneer tapped the gavel at $4,600 on the high seller, Pine-Tree 1258 Larg 5475 ET, a summer yearling consigned by Matthew Steiner, Marshallville, and purchased by Lou Brown, New Bremen.
The second high seller, Duncan Spearmint Candy, a junior three-year-old from Drew and Rachel Duncan, Warsaw, got a bid of $3,150 from buyer Michael Crawford, Dover.
Jersey
The Buckeye Classic Jersey Sale, hosted by the Buckeye Dairy Club, featured 25 head that sold for an average of $1,434.
The high seller was Topeka Sunset-ET, consigned by Williams Jerseys, McConnelsville. She sold for $3,250 to Stacy Atherton, Newark.
Tying for second highest seller at $2,250 were Grazeland Skyler Kelsey, consigned by Russell and Cheryl King, Creston, and purchased by Trent Neuenschwander, Dalton, and DKG Request Halo, consigned by John, Donna and Trevor Greiwe, Sidney, and purchased by Mark Hoewischer, Mechanicsburg.
Brown Swiss
The Midwest Revue Brown Swiss Sale , hosted by Modern Associates, featured a lineup of 56 cattle that averaged $3,119, selling to breeders from 10 different states.
Siegerts Jetway Sable ET, a junior three-year-old consigned by Top Acres, St. Paris, topped the sale at $14,000. Sable sold to Jeremy McDonald, Middletown, Va., and went on to win her class in the show.
The second high seller was Old Mill Supreme Grateful ET, a bred heifer from Old Mill Farm, Va. and Hillpoint Partners, Wis., bringing $10,000 from buyer Antonio Moreno, Texas.
