Buyers support Ashland Co. 4-H’ers

ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland area businesses and individuals turned out in full force to show their support for the junior fair exhibitors during the Ashland County junior fair’s livestock auction.

The first day of the two-day auction got underway with the sale of Rusty Cook’s champion pen of broilers to Gerald and Ada Sue Workman for $400 while Ashley Pickering’s reserve champion pen of broilers was purchased for $410 by Mike Kelly for K-Sorellas Restaurant and Hedstrom Corporation.

Misty McElwain sold her champion pen of meat rabbits to Dr. Stephen Torski for $275, while Farmer’s State Bank bid $230 for Renee Young’s reserve champion pen of meat rabbits.

Seth Ebert’s champion turkey was purchased by Randy and Melanie Tallmadge for $250 and Amanda Hickey sold her reserve champion turkey for $250 to Hillsdale FFA Alumni.

Goats. Melissa Wynn’s 99-pound champion meat-type market goat was purchased by Dr. Brian Garrison for $7 per pound while Dilgard & Associates bid $6 for Charity Massie’s 77-pound reserve champion meat-type goat.

Dr. Stephen Torski bid $3.20 per pound for Jeff Stitzlein’s 119-pound champion dairy-type market goat. Adam Crist sold his 84-pound reserve champion dairy-type goat for $2.50 per pound to Money Now.

Large animal sale. Morris Sign Studio and Dr. Stephen Torski bid $4.75 per pound for Stephanie Litten’s 1,253-pound champion market steer.

Wilbur Hammett of Hammett Asphalt and Paving bid $3.75 per pound for Aaron Yoder’s 1,247-pound reserve champion market steer.

Dustin White’s 1,310-pound champion dairy steer was purchased by Classy Chassi and Hayesville Corn Crib for $1.80 per pound. Dylan Esselburn’s 1,289-pound reserve champion dairy steer was purchased by Bill Rogers, IBA Dairy Supply for $1.80 per pound.

Geyer’s Hawkin’s Market $1.60 per pound for Jenna Canfield’s 1,154-pound champion Ashland County born and raised steer while J.C. Meyers Realty Co. bid $1.70 per pound for Jake White’s 1,295-pound reserve champion Ashland County bred and raised steer.

Lamb auction. BCU Electric bid $22 per pound for Jake White’s 136-pound champion market lamb. Stitzlein Club Lambs bid $11 per pound for Jeff Stitzlein’s 135-pound reserve champion market lamb.

Randy and Melanie Tallmadge and Deb McLellen of Wayne Homes bid $12 per pound for Luke Ebert’s 252-pound champion market hog, while Danny Boggs of Samaritan Regional Health Care System and Dr. Stephen Torski bid $6 per pound for Bret Hawley’s 260-pound reserve champion market hog.

Dr. Stephen Torski and Don Weiler of Morris Sign Studio also had the top bid of $6 per pound for David Elson’s 1,306-pound champion baby beef steer, while Aaron White’s 1,351-pound reserve champion baby beef steer was purchased by Ashland University Dining Halls.
