Census shows farmland depleted in Kentucky

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s report shows that Kentucky has lost over 900,000 acres of farmland and roughly 8,000 farms even though an emerging trend of locally-grown food is on the rise.

According to My San Antonio, the report shows such dramatic decreases because of the definition of “farm” and how the use of farmland can change from census to census.

Kentucky wasn’t the only state that has less farmland than before. Wisconsin, Georgia and several other farm-rich states reported a lower percentage of farms, too.
