HARRISBURG, Pa. — Rolling Hills Nature Boy, exhibited by Gerald Allebach of Spring Mills, Centre County, was named the Supreme Champion Draft Horse, Saturday, Jan. 4 at the 2014 Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
Windermere Farms, owned and operated by the Allebach Family, is home to the four World Champion Percherons.
“We make our living from our horses; breeding, raising and training them. My last world champion had seven generations of our bloodlines,” Allebach said. “We have been coming to the Farm Show since 1976; we skipped last year because we were in the Rose Parade in California.”
Rolling Hills Nature Boy also won champion Percheron stallion, Windermere Farms also exhibited the champion Clydesdale mare named Majestic Dream’s Gem.
During the supreme champion competition, Majestic Dream’s Gem was shown by Gerald’s 13 year-old son Abraham.
David Hershey of Spring Mount Percherons in Warriors Mark, Huntingdon County, presented the champion gelding Percheron.
Hershey said that he competes because of the warm family atmosphere of the Farm Show.
“Family and close friends really help us at the Farm Show. It’s also a tradition, and it’s nice that it is so local,” he said.
While at the Farm Show, the Hershey family also competes in the four- and six-horse hitch. The champion Belgian mare was exhibited by Tim Ruth from New Oxford, Adams County, with the New Chester Draft Horse Co.
