HARRISBURG, Pa. – The consistent quality of Charles King’s flock earned him the Best Five Fleeces award during the wool show held during the 48th annual Keystone International Livestock Exposition.
A fine wool Merino ewe fleece exhibited by George Hunter of Stoneboro, Pa., received the Champion Purebred Farm Fleece award as well as the Grand Champion Fleece award.
More for King. In addition to winning the Best Five Fleeces award, Charles King of Jacobsburg, Ohio, also won the reserve champion purebred farm fleece title for his Merino ram fleece and reserve grand champion fleece for his half-blood fleece entry.
Exhibitors entered 35 entries in the wool show this year.
Wool show judge Tom McIlwain of Apollo, Pa., judged the entries based on such qualities as color, thickness and crimping of fiber, cleanliness, and oil-content.
