CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture and Natural Recourses Committee will hold its second annual Daffodil Drive-It-Yourself Tour of Carroll County April 19 with map and trip program pick-up at the Carroll County Fairgrounds from 1-4 p.m.
The stops will be open from 1-6 p.m.
Dinner
The Carroll County Fair Barn Fund will hold a rigatoni dinner under the grand stands from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The self-guided tour will feature 13 stops and many drive-by points of interests, as the 40-mile trip winds its way through Union, Perry and Loudon townships.
The program will include driving directions and information on the stops and more than 25 drive-by places of interest.
The Ashton House Museum includes items from Ashton’s history dating back to the early 1800s as well as historic and nostalgic items from Carrollton and surrounding communities.
The Ashtons were also collectors and in the museum will be Hummel, Anri and Wade figurines, as well as Knowles, Grondahl, Hibel and Bing plates and Haviland dishware.
Sports fans will find items from the Kentucky Derby and the Ohio State Buckeyes dating back to the 1940s.
The Carrollton Farmer’s Exchange, the only cooperative feed mill in the county, will be open and giving tours of the complex.
Learn what really happens at a feed mill and see what else they have to offer the public.
Burgett’s Purebred Angus Farm will be the place to see beef and learn more about the beef industry.
Learn about chestnuts and other trees at the Empire Chestnut Company.
See Petersburg Marina on scenic Leesville Lake as it is starting to come alive with activity for the season.
Algonquin Mill Complex
The Algonquin Mill Complex is not only home to the annual fall festival but will be one of the food stops on the tour.
The complex is owned, operated and preserved by the Carroll County Historical Society.
Historic buildings from throughout the county have been moved to the mill grounds and set up to resemble an 1800s village complete with one-room schoolhouse and train station.
Carroll County is home to the most youth camps of any county in the state and the next stop is an example of two of these camps.
Camp Muskingum is the state FFA camp and brings campers from all over Ohio. Whereas their neighbor, Camp Aldersgate, is owned by the United Methodist Church.
Perrysville Historic Church also owned by the historical society will be open to remind everyone what one of the many old churches in the county looked like.
Firehouse
Loudon Township Firehouse is the second food stop for the trip. There will also be displays set up to learn more about agriculture, natural resources and the county.
Heads or Tales Bison Ranch is the place to see and learn about the once free roaming buffalo.
Nancy and Grant Kittle have been raising bison for several years and are glad to share them with the tour.
You also will get a chance to look at some of the unique byproducts of buffalo.
Sunny Brook Farm Herbs will give tours of their production of many herbal remedies that are made on site and sold all over the country.
The final stop of the day is at the Coal Miner’s Memorial in Amsterdam where attendees will be able to learn more of the history of the tragic event that led to its construction and reasons for the mass grave.
