KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dairy Farmers of America has sold its dairy processing operations in New Bremen, Ohio, to the Central Soya Company.

The plant, a mainstay employer in the community, will provide an expansion of Central Soya’s capacity to produce soy protein concentrates. Central Soya said it initially expects to employ 20 people at the New Bremen location.

It will take several months to re-engineer the dairy plant to manufacture soy protein concentrates. Central Soya sells the protein concentrates worldwide as ingredients in processed foods, especially processed meats.

“We can’t say enough good things about the New Bremen citizens who have worked in our dairy operations for years and stuck by the plant when it faced a terrible fire in 1996,” said Gary Hanman, DFA president and CEO.

The dairy co-op had previously closed the plant because the area’s volume of milk did not support keeping it open.

The plant, located at 455 W. Monroe St., includes nearly 10 acres.
