Dinner in Jewett to celebrate General Custer’s birthday

JEWETT, Ohio – George Custer was born Dec. 5, 1839, in New Rumley, Ohio. Area people will keep his memory in the forefront by celebrating a dinner Dec. 2 at the Kammeyer Opera House at 6:30 p.m.



The menu includes chicken breasts, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls, beverages, sherbet and birthday cake.



The program includes portrayals of General George Armstrong Custer, General Thomas L. Rosser, and Admiral David Farragut. Rosser was Custer’s West Point classmate.



Farragut was an American naval officer, who with President Andrew Johnson, General Grant, General Custer, and others stopped in Scio, Ohio in 1866 on a presidential re-election campaign tour.



Events of the evening will continue with an auction, Civil War displays, door prizes and a sales table of Custer items.



The admission is $15 per person and $10 for children 11 and under. Tickets may be purchased from Custer Memorial Association members. For more information and tickets, call 740-945 6415.
