CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – The Eastern Ohio Grassland Conference will be Oct. 10-11 in Guernsey County, Ohio. The registration deadline is Sept. 27.

The hands-on grassland workshop is designed for the producer and resource manager.

The conference begins Oct. 10., 8 a.m., at the Guernsey County Extension office with registration. There will be a producer panel from 8:30-9:30 a.m. featuring Andy Fadorsen, Guernsey County; Chuck Rodenfels, Noble County; and Earl McKarns, Carroll County.

From 9:45-10:45 a.m., Daryl Clark will have a discussion on understanding forage growth, followed by Bob Hendershot, who will discuss water systems and layout from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

There will be tours of Fadorsen’s farm from 1-3 p.m. and Howard and Carol Wheelers’ farm from 3-5 p.m.

The final activity Oct. 10 is a discussion by Ed Ballard on the economics of grazing, 7-7:40 p.m.

Day two. Oct. 11 begins with J.P. Stoner’s discussion on fencing at 8:30 a.m. at the Eastern Ohio Agriculture Research Development Center in Belle Valley, Ohio.

The discussions will continue with Ed Redmond’s discussion on soils at 9:15 a.m. and Clif Little’s discussion on getting the most out of your grasslands at 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Chris Penrose will discuss stockpiling forage options at noon, and Mark Smith will discuss conservation assistance at 1:30 p.m.

There will be a producer panel at 2 p.m. where Bob Ullman, Daryl Clark and Jim Clay will discuss the first step toward grazing.

The cost of the conference is $20 or $30 for a couple’s registration. This covers the cost of lunch, breaks and conference material.

Make checks payable to OSU Extension and send to 1112 Wheeling Ave., Cambridge, OH 43725. The Oct. 10 conference will be at this address. From Interstate 70, travel northbound on Interstate 77. Exit at 46B and travel westbound on state Route 40 (Wheeling Avenue). The extension office is on the left past the fourth light.
