NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — The 2015 Tuscarawas County 4-H Demonstration Contest took place on July 14 at J.I.M.’s Place in New Philadelphia.
Individuals and teams were evaluated on their presentations.
First, second and third-place winners in the junior division (ages 14 and under as of Jan. 1) will compete at the Ohio State Fair on Aug. 5.
In the junior division, first place was Rachel Nay of Port Washington, Ohio, with “From Grass to Gas: The Digestive System of a Cow.”
Second place went to Anna Cox of Mineral City, Ohio, with “Vintage Suitcase Dog Bed.”
Kayla Scott, also of Mineral City, landed third place with “Biosecurity on Your Farm.”
In fourth place was Zach Misko of Baltic, Ohio, with “A Housewife Tale.”
Joseph Brown, also of Port Washington, took fifth place with “Cool Breeze.”
In the senior division (ages 14 and over as of Jan. 1), Micaliah Peffer of Zoar, Ohio, won with “Upcycling Your Wardrobe.”
l CANFIELD, Ohio — Nine Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club members were selected to participate in the State Style Revue in Columbus on Aug. 4, following the Mahoning County Style Revue.
Those selected were: Camille Kirk for “Sew for Others and Loungewear,” Katie Prosser for “Look Great For Less,” Abby Schors for “em*bel*lish,” Emily Smith for “Active Sportswear,” Taylor Smith for “Dress Up Outfit,” Evelyn Collier for “Sew Fun,” Brianna Herman for “Tops for Tweens,” Olivia Haid for “Clothes for Middle School” and Shannon Marshburn for “Clothes for High School.”
State alternate awards were presented to Bailey Hornberger for “Dress Up Outfit” and Rachel McBride for “Shopping Savvy.”
County awards were won by Shannon Marshburn for “Look Great for Less,” Tiffany Voland for “em*bel*lish” and “Dress Up Outfit,” Emily Smith for “Creative Costumes,” Abby Schors for “Clothes for High School” and Isabel Schors for “Clothes for Middle School.”
Shannon Marshburn also won the best clothing project book award and special clothing technique award.
Olivia Haid was presented the best project made with pig suede award.
At a recent 4-H club meeting, members who participated in the Canfield Fourth of July parade were recognized, as well as those who participated in the public speaking contest.
The winner of a building contest using spaghetti and marshmallow was a team led by Ian Hames and members Dylan Fair, Logan Fair, Caylee Selley and Joshua Stamp.
Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club will meet again Aug. 13 at the Ellsworth Fire Hall in Ellsworth, Ohio, at 7 p.m.
