MEDINA, Ohio — 4-H and FFA market beef weigh-in and identification will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at the Medina County Fairgrounds.
All market beef steers and heifers to be shown at the Medina County junior fair livestock show and market beef intended for the carcass show must be identified at this clinic. Animals should be leadable by this date.
A $15 head fee for all market beef will be collected at this time. If any 4-H’er would like to enter a beef steer in the rate of gain contest must submit a completed weight card at the weigh-in Jan. 12.
For 2013, each steer must be identified with one person labeled as the owner. This ownership cannot be changed after weigh-in Jan. 12.
State fair deadline. Anyone wishing to enter a market steer or heifer in the 2013 Ohio State Fair must submit noseprints and an identification card signed by the county 4-H educator or FFA instructor to the state fair livestock office by Jan. 15.
Dairy beef steers entering the rate of gain contest also must be weighed and identified at this clinic. All other dairy beef finished steers must be identified by photos (if Holsteins) or noseprints (if Brown Swiss).
