BROOKFIELD, Ohio — The Brookfield 4-H Friends recently met to discuss fair preparations.
The fair runs July 7-13 and all members must have their animals in place by 4 p.m. July 7.
The fair clean-up day is July 28.
Project interview judging is at 5:30 p.m. June 25.
ELLSWORTH, Ohio — At the recent meeting of the Western Reserve rangers, Blake Algarin reported on the 4-H state ambassador orientation and training session he and Hannah Shrader participated in earlier this month at the new 4-H Center in Columbus.
Delorean Jones reported on the Mahoning County 4-H Junior Leader Club’s participation in the Austintown Relay for Life Event June 7-8.
Krista Hornberger and Emily Schors were recognized for being selected to represent Mahoning County at Ohio 4-H Leadership Camp in July, where Amelia Shrader will again be a camp counselor. Shrader also attended a two-day training at the 4-H Center in Columbus to prepare her to be a counselor for the summer Ohio Military Kids Camp at Kelly’s Island on Lake Erie in July.
Health leader Annamarie Duda advised members on how to prevent dehydration during the summer months and recreation leader Katrina Klockenga led a team spelling game.
Vice President Blake Algarin encouraged the younger members to attend Mahoning County’s 4-H Junior Camp at 4-H Camp Whitewood July 20-26.
Fashion board adviser Diane Pitcairn reminded members about the June 21 trip to Kent State Fashion Museum.
“It’s Time for Clothing Project” members’ final meeting before the July 14 clothing judging will be at 2 p.m. July 6 at the home of Jan and Kathleen Moser.
Members signed up to ride on the club float in the Canfield Fourth of July parade. They also voted to purchase a gift certificate for Bill Hendricks of Professional Engines in Canfield for providing the truck for the parade.
Entry forms for taking animals to the Canfield Fair were distributed to members with livestock projects.
4-H members turned in letters of appreciation that will be sent to Ranger 4-H alumni Pfc. Brett Majirsky. He recently returned from a tour of duty in Kuwait and is now living in Georgia.
Blake and Ashley Algarin, Alexx Hames and Katherine Pitcairn staged mock judging interviews for the members to help prepare them for the many interview judging events in July.
Ranger members will meet again July 10 at the Ellsworth Fire Hall.
CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Sharpshooters met May 24 at the Brown Township Sportsmen’s Club with 34 members present.
Adviser John Gardner said every person who displayed a project at the fair will receive $2. He also said the club purchased a shooting trailer for storage of supplies.
Members shot and recorded their scores in their project books.
Lela Hicklin gave a demonstration on storytelling.
Max Romeo talked about power tool safety and Natalie Romeo discussed healing cuts.
The next meeting is at 1 p.m. June 21.
CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Kilgore Rangers met June 9 at the Davis home with 10 members in attendance.
Julie Davis made sure everyone got their fair entries completed and told members about a rabies clinic.
Then the club voted to donate $10 to the buyers’ dinners.
Members were told that livestock exhibitors needed to get their health papers soon.
Lauren Keefer gave a demonstration on how to take a picture; Taylor Keefer talked about how to plant a flower; Jacob Lovejoy talked about how to shoot a basketball; and Haley Keefer demonstrated how to halter a lamb.
Tyler Moore gave a safety talk on how to spray a cat with flea spray; Austin Keefer talked about how to wash clothes; Savannah Meyers talked about how to vacuum; and Mariah Meyers talked about how to wash dishes.
After the meeting, members worked on the fair booth and trash barrel.
The next meeting is a 2 p.m. June 22 at the Davis home.
CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Kangaroo Krew met June 6 at the Mechanicstown Church with 14 members present.
Discussion included the Mechanicstown Homecoming Parade and about doing bunny bingo. Members also talked about decorations for the fair booth.
Ellen Rhome and Becky Stoller gave a presentation about rabbit showmanship; Floyd Craft talked about knife safety.
The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. June 27 at Mechanicstown Church.
CARROLLTON, Ohio — The Yonge Hearts and Stars had 10 members at its June 4 meeting at St. Mary’s Church hall.
Barrel and booth ideas were discussed, as well as the hot dog stand and bake sale Aug. 22.
Demonstrations were given by: Julia Cain, Brittani Gintz, Wesley Stout, Allison Larson, Casey Haney and Jesse Haney.
The next meeting is at 7 p.m. June 18 at St. Mary’s Church hall.
