NORTH JACKSON, Ohio — The Judge’s Choice 4-H club will host an Open Youth Horse Show June 12 at Buckeye Horse Park in Canfield at 9 a.m. Members will host the fun show and have named it Canter For A Cure. All proceeds will go to the Columbiana Relay For Life.

Classes will be $2 each to give all youth a chance to participate. Mini driving, food booth, Chinese auction and foot relays will also be offered. Cake walk will be offered for free. Helmets will be required for riders 19 and under and attire will be casual.

NEWBUY, Ohio — Breeders and Feeders met April 17. Before the business meeting, members visited Geauga County nursing homes. Some members brought rabbits to show the residents and everyone made Easter/Spring cards for the residents.

Members were reminded about the May 14 quality assurance meeting from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Camper roundup for summer camp is 6:30 p.m. May 23 at the fairgrounds. Cedar Point was discussed as a group outing and a candy sale is scheduled as a fundraiser.

All members practiced for the skillathon. Swine kids received their project books and went over the pages they must complete. They also discussed getting their pigs and pig tagging is from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. May 21.

The next meeting is May 22 in Munson.

BOLIVAR, Ohio — The Tusky Valley Stars 4-H Club met May 5 at the Faith Baptist Church in Bolivar.

Douglas Pitcher gave a demonstration on how to show a rabbit and Jessica Pitcher gave a demonstration on beef grooming. Another highlight of the meeting was two Bolivar Firemen speaking about various spring safety topics.

The 4-H’ers learned about not swimming during storms, wearing a helmet while bicycling, and how to be safe around camp fires. The firemen also mentioned safety while grilling, riding four-wheelers, and fishing. Everyone learned about fire extinguishers and the acronym in order to remember how to use one — P.A.S.S, which stands for “Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep.”

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 20 at the Faith Baptist Church in Bolivar.

OBERLIN, Ohio — The Four Leaf Clovers 4-H club met March 21 at the Firelands Elementary School Library. The group went over many dates of the year, for animal/project deadlines and dates for Quality Assurance.

The group also discussed the first community service event, bowling for pledges. After our bowling event, as a club, the group will decide to donate the money to a worthy cause.

ASHTABULA, Ohio –The City Slicker’s 4-H club met at the Ashtabula OSU Extension Office April 30.

Members discussed talking about a new fundraiser selling maple syrup from Camp Whitewood.

They also worked on skillathon and Tom Murray talked about breeding rabbits.

At the last meeting, officers were chosen including: president Gidget Marrison; vice president Dana Kowalski; secretary Paige Mottley; treasurer Kayleen Altman; news reporter Analese Marrison; health Cheyenne Kase; safety Stone Starcher; recreation Carley Mottley; photographer Kayla Lindberg.

CANFIELD, Ohio — At April meeting for the Just Chancing It 4-H Club, shirts for the members were distributed. The club members also discussed having a bake sale fundraiser at Tractor Supply Co.

The club also talked about maybe doing the Canfield July 4th parade. May 29 will be the club’s open house and the appliance drive will also be held that day at the barn. For more information contact Brandy Kemmer at 330-207-5558.

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — The Milkmakers 4-H club met April 4 at Jerusalem Church in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Members decided to continue with cheese sale to raise money for their club, and will be taking orders through May 16.

Another fundraiser idea called the “Cash Cow Program,” a coupon book sale, is still being discussed.

Quality assurance training dates were discussed and demonstrations were performed.

The next meeting is May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Jerusalem church.

CHARDON, Ohio — The Geauga Beef and Swine 4-H club held its April meeting at the Chardon, Pizza Hut.

Members discussed buyer letters, talked about the skillathon July 23, and also discussed other community service ideas.

Members were reminded May 21 is the hog tagging date at the fairgrounds, and quality assurance is May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Burton fairgrounds.

The club will have a clean-up meeting at the fairgrounds June 11 after the flea market. Members also decided to do a community service at the benefit cancer horse show July 23 and 24.

The May meeting is on the 15th at the fairgrounds and in the school building. Then members are going to a feedlot to see how it is run.

Project books were distributed.
