SULLIVAN, Ohio — The Black River FFA has been busy with competitions. Ella Yoder, Jessica Peak, and Sierra Sturgill participated in the sub-district Public Speaking Career Development Event held at Norwayne High School Feb. 10.

Yoder, a freshman, participated in the creed speaking portion of the competition. Participants had to recite the FFA Creed. In addition to reciting the creed, they were also asked questions pertaining to their beliefs about agriculture. Yoder placed first in the competition.

Sturgill, a junior, competed in the Extemporaneous event. She placed fourth in her division.
Jessica Peak, a senior, participated in the Advanced Creed event, placing second.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Zane Trace FFA held its 38th annual sausage breakfast Feb. 5 in the Zane Trace cafeteria.

Eighteen senior members of the chapter served pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee to 782 individuals. A total of $4,080.50 was donated at the door, which set a new record. The proceeds from the breakfast will be donated to Children’s Hospital, the ZT FCCLA Scholarship Fund, and the Ross County Junior Fair.

Members of the FFA chapter participated in events all week leading up to the breakfast. A total of 51 students assisted in processing nine hogs into sausage links during two after-school work sessions and 40 students planned and taught farm production lessons to more than 300 elementary students.
