A roundup of FFA news for the week of Feb. 12, 2009

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Laurel FFA will host the Buckeye Donkey Basketball Show at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at Laurel High School gymnasium in New Castle, Pa.

A playoff between the winning teams will determine this year’s champion. Specially selected donkeys will be used for this show.

ASHLAND, Ohio — On Jan. 17, 16 members of the Mapleton FFA participated in the biennial bus trip to Denver.

The weeklong trip started off with a stop in Indianapolis, where members toured Target Chip Ganassi Racing Inc.

On the 18th, the group made it to Missouri and saw the St. Louis Arch, where they were able to learn the history of the city and the arch.

The next day the group traveled to Oklahoma where they visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum, as well as Express Ranch Inc.

Day four was spent in Texas, where they toured the High Country Dairy Farm, CSS Potato Farm and Cargill Sweet Brand feed mill.

On day five, the chapter arrived in Denver for the Denver National Stock Show. At the stock show, the students saw an assortment of livestock, visited the expo center and attended a rodeo.

On the way home, the group headed for Manhattan, Kan., where it toured the Kansas State University Animal Science Department. Later that day, members toured Triumph Foods in St. Joeseph, Mo., which processes 15,000 hogs each day.
