OBERLIN, Ohio — The Firelands FFA chapter qualified earlier this winter for the state parliamentary procedure career development event for the first time in chapter history. The team earned second place in the semi-finals and was gold rated. Team members, with their parliamentary procedure offices are Abigail Miller, secretary; Alex Tuggle, president; Jessica Zurcher, treasurer; Josh Hanna; Erica Hanko, student adviser; Emma Ranney, reporter; Emily Teaman, vice president; and Chrissy Balint, sentinel.
LOUDONVILLE, Ohio — The Loudonville FFA and FFA alumni are holding their annual strawberry sale. The chapter is selling whole and half flats of Florida strawberries, which will be delivered the week of March 19. Cost of a flat is $20 and includes 12 pints; half flats are $10. The group is also selling D. B. Yummers barbecue sauce in the flavors of mild, spicy or island. It is packaged in glass bottles for $4, gallon jugs for $20 or 12 bottle cases for $44. Anyone interested should contact any Loudonville FFA member or call the LHS Ag Department by March 2 at 419-994-4101. The group is also selling a selection of Florida mixed nuts that include: peanuts, assorted flavors of pecans and cashews. The money raised will assist in sending students at a reduced cost to district and state FFA contests, state FFA convention, summer FFA camp and Washington Leadership Conference.
FFA week will be held on the week of Feb. 21-24. Students will be asked to drive their trucks to school Feb. 21. If they donate $1 towards the children’s hospital they will receive a root beer float at lunch.
Blue and Gold day will be Feb. 22 and students should wear blue or gold in support to the FFA.
Feb. 23 will be boots/camo/ flannel day and tractor day will be Feb. 24. Students who drive a tractor to school are asked to meet at McDonalds at 7:15-7:30 a.m.
Loudonville FFA Chapter member Ian Timmons received fourth place in the public speaking competition in Plymouth, Ohio. Timmons presented a six-minute speech on the importance of agriculture and world market.
Loudonville FFA member Nathan Wolgamott received third place in the FFA creed speaking contest.
