ASHLAND, Ohio — The Crestview FFA had 19 members and five chaperones attend the National Western Denver trip Jan. 18 – 25. The chapter partnered with the Clear Fork FFA for the trip and traveled over 3,000 miles.
The FFA members had the opportunity to tour several agricultural industry factories along the way. On Jan. 18, members toured Crossroad Farms Dairy, a dairy foods plant that processes milk to create milk products such as chocolate milk, ice cream, and ice cream sandwiches for the Kroger Company.
The next day the members visited St. Louis, where they got to see the St. Louis Arch, or “Gateway to the West”.
On Jan. 20, the two FFA chapters visited the Cowboy Hall of Fame, Stockyard City, and Express Ranches.
On Jan. 21, members visited Avi-Lanche Jerseys, Cargill Sweet Bran, JBSSA Five Rivers Cattle Company and CSS Potato Farms.
Finally on Jan. 22 Crestview and Clear Fork reached The Denver National Stock Show. The members got to spend the entire day walking around the stockyards and vendors’ building.
Then on Jan. 24 the members continued their journey back home stopping at two agricultural tours, Vermeer Corporation, and Lely Robotic Milkers in Pella, Iowa.
On Jan. 25, the members made their last stop at Tyson Fresh Meats, a pork processing plant located in Logansport, Ind. This plant processes 15,000 hogs per day and hires 2,000 employees.

BERLIN, OHIO –The Hiland FFA Chapter made Christmas Cards and delivered them to the local nursing homes Dec. 20; Walnut Hills, Holmes County Home, and Majora Lane. The chapter made 205 homemade cards. Members created their own cards and decorated them.
Also, the chapter went shopping and purchased Christmas gifts for a Holmes County Home resident. These are new community service activities for the chapter and members enjoyed participating in it. On Dec. 20, Hiland FFA Officers had an officer night in which members were invited. After they delivered cards to nursing homes, members went to a movie and then went out to dinner.
The FFA Chapter just wrapped up their annual fruit sale. The top five salesmen are as follows: first, Rachelle Yoder; second, Javan Scheufler; third, Taylor Raber; fourth, Lee Shetler; fifth, David Yoder.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Three Lawrence County FFA teams competed at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show this year. Mohawk FFA, with adviser Cliff Wallace, placed first in the state with a demonstration on heating and cooling with geothermal. Team members are Cara Trotter, Trent Whittaker, Scott Relic, Randy Pauline, and Katherine Harding.
Placing ninth was the team from Wilmington High School advised by Joanna McKelvey. The students demonstrated how to make homemade ice cream. Team members are Jackie Thompson, Gaige Maitland, Josh Schibik, Jacob Schooley and Autumn Lilley.
Placing 14th overall was the team from Laurel High School advised by Randy Harrold. The demonstration included using a solar oven to prepare food. Team members are Rhonda Mitcheltree, Shelby Dean, Mark Pizor, Justin Kennedy, and Rebecca Jones.
