CRESTON, Ohio –Norwayne FFA members competing at an ag sales competition Feb. 22 at Hillsdale High school were Bree Barner, Lydia Hartzler, Ally Mangun, and Nicole Steiner. The team placed first in the district, with Mangun placing second individually, and Steiner, fourth.

Mangun also competed in the district public speaking contest March 2, placing second in creed speaking.

Nicole Steiner also participated, winning the beginner prepared division.

Both contestants will be participating at the state public speaking contest March 20.

Chapter members also celebrated FFA week, Feb. 16-29. Juniors and seniors shared their FFA experiences with eighth graders, and encouraged them to take an agricultural course next year.

The special event for Wednesday was making homemade ice cream. FFA students took turns in whipping up the ingredients, cranking the ice cream machines, and putting the final product into cups for serving Norwayne High School students and staff.

Thursday, members made and served a meal to all FFA members, faculty and staff of Norwayne, and FFA alumni members.

Friday’s tractor drive in was postponed due to bad weather conditions. It has been rescheduled April 1.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Mapleton FFA chapter took an equine and general livestock team to the Mount Gilead invitational Feb. 20 at the Mount Gilead fairgrounds.

The equine team placed third overall and Jessica Burrows placed second.

The general livestock team placed second overall and Jared Wynn placed second individually.

On Feb. 24, Mapleton general livestock and equine teams competed at the Wilmington Aggies Invitational.

The general livestock judging team of Jared Wynn, Colton Hickey, Garrett Canfield, Adam Heffelfinger and Herman Haupricht placed second. Individually, Wynn placed fifth place; Hickey, seventh; and Canfield, 14th.

ALBANY, Ohio — The Alexander FFA Job Interview and Ag Sales teams competed Feb. 18 at Federal Hocking High School. The Job Interview team consisted of Heather Gould, Kim Holcomb, Jacob Smith and Xavier Justice.

The Ag Sales team consisted of Ben Smith, Tyler Willoughby, Noelle Eveland and Whitney Mullins. The Ag Sales team placed second and competed in the state competition March 6.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — The West Holmes FFA Tractor Troubleshooting team, Kyle Hanna, Ryan Sowers, Chris Patterson, Mitch Ling and Brandon Bowles, went to the district contest Feb. 22 .

Hanna and Patterson represented the chapter and placed first in their morning heat and third overall in the district.

Members Cynthia Bunch, Casey Schlauch, Elizabeth Overholt and Derek Reutter went to Ridgewood High School Feb. 23 for the sub-district speaking contest.

Bunch placed third in the prepared speaking contest and Schlauch placed fourth in the beginning prepared. Overholt placed first in the creed speaking contest and Reutter placed second in the extemporaneous contest.

Bunch, Overholt and Reutter represented the chapter at the district contest March 2.

Members traveled to a judging invitational in Mount Gilead Feb. 20 to practice for the state spring judging contests March 27. The chapter sent a general livestock judging team of Gretchen Straits, Keaton Strouse and Brandon Bowles; a horse judging team of Brittney Sigler, Logan Brannon and Travis Campbell; Shane Gardner in the nature interpretation and wildlife contest; and Maggie Raber in dairy foods.

The general livestock team placed 11th. Gardner placed third in nature interpretation and fifth in wildlife. The horse judging team placed 10th.

The chapter held its regular business meeting and officer elections Feb. 18th.

The newly elected officers are: president, Victoria Carpenter; vice president, Garrett O’Donnell; secretary, Casey Schlauch; treasurer, Rebecca Chamberlin; reporter, Marshall Overholt; historian, Kayla Chandler; sentinel, Aaron Clark; and student adviser, Derek Reutter.

The chapter also elected junior fair board members Maggie Raber, Becca Chamberlin, Allyson Flinner, Derek Reutter and Travis Campbell.

King and Queen representatives were also elected. King is senior Ryan Jacobs and queen is senior Kiersten Sigler.

In other business, members decided to hold the club banquet April 23 and to pay for all banquet supplies. They also passed a motion to conduct FFA Week activities and to hold the Mid-Ohio Lamb Classic.

In lieu of door prizes at the annual banquet, members decided to hold a 50/50, andd to donate half of the proceeds to Lighthouse Love Center to help pay for a new tarp for the gym.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Ag Sales team for Northwestern FFA consists of juniors Katryna Osley and Chris Thomas, and sophomore: Tessa Hershey and Marla Walton, with Sarhra Flinn as the alternate.

At district competition, Northwestern’s team placed second. Osley scored first in individual rankings at districts. The team earned a berth in the state competition March 6.
