CRESTON, Ohio — The Norwayne FFA hosted the District 3 Public Speaking Contest Feb. 28.
Meghan Geitgey, a freshmen at Norwayne, received second in the creed contest. She had to recite the five-paragraph FFA creed in front of two judges.
Following that, she had to answer questions about the creed.
Norwayne FFA members traveled to Columbus to participate in the State Agriculture Sales Contest March 3. As a team, they finished second. The team members had to give a 15-minute sales presentation and handle a customer complaint.
The team members were Allison Mangun who placed fifth overall; Nicole Steiner eighth; Mara Holcomb 25th; and Lydia Hartzler 32nd.

SMITHVILLE, Ohio — The Wayne County Schools Career Center floral and greenhouse team from Landscape and Plant Technologies placed fourth at FFA District 3 competition recently at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield.
The students advance to the state contest April 27. In individual competition, Alannah Hudson of Wooster placed fifth; Kimberly Coblentz of Dalton placed 12th, and Dillon Wipert of Wooster placed 16th.

SMITHVILLE, Ohio — Mariana Cantera, a senior at Smithville High School, represented the Smithville FFA chapter at the state job interview contest at Ohio State University in Columbus March 3.
Before the contest, she wrote a cover letter and resume to apply for a job as a farm worker at Oak Ridge Farms. On the day of the contest she went through an interview with judges, completed a job application, and wrote a follow-up letter to her interviewers. She placed third in the state in Division 5.

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA ag sales team of Luke Ebert, Sarah Bookman, Dex Rogers, and Megan Miller recently won the district and state contests and will travel to the National FFA Convention in October to compete nationally.
At the state contest, individually Bookman placed first, Ebert placed second, Miller placed 20th, and Rogers, 27th.

OBERLIN, Ohio — Several Firelands FFA members have earned district and state proficiency honors, including: Jeb Larson, second place in district for diversified crop placement; Jessica Zurcher, second place in district for specialty animal production and first in district for poultry production; Emma Northeim, first in district for fruit production placement; Emma Ranney was gold rated for goat production.
The following FFA members are state finalists and will interview for the top four in state placings in May: Amanda Spears, Diversified Horticulture Placement; Jimmy Hozalski, Grain Crop Production; and Alex Tuggle for Sheep Production.
