BEVERLY, Ohio — On May 11 the Fort Frye FFA held its annual FFA picnic. At the picnic, the new officers held its first meeting, which was also the last meeting of the school year.
During the meeting, the students discussed holding a pool party during the summer. They decided that the pool party would be June 10 and all Fort Frye FFA members are invited to attend.
The new and old officers had pictures taken for the yearbook.
FFA members played corn hole at the picnic. The students brought food to share with everyone. After the picnic, the members attended May Day the rest of the school day.

DIAMOND, Ohio — The Southeast FFA chapter recently went to Columbus, and attended the 84th annual state FFA convention.
While they were attending the convention, they got the opportunity to tour the agricultural campus of The Ohio State University.
The students who doubled the annual fruit sales goal for the year were able to attend the convention for free. The chapter had a total of 18-students who reached that goal and attended.
On May 15, a total of 26 members donated their time performing community service work in Edinburg Township. Members planted flowers at the town hall, as well as at the corner of Tallmadge Road and state Route 14. They also planted flowers, and cleaned up around the Edinburg Township Cemetery located on state Route 14 in the township.
After completing these tasks, they then traveled to the Edinburg Park located on Rocksprings Road. The chapter then painted all of the benches at the park, as well as all of the wooden bleachers. The chapter planned to do a community service activity in Deerfield Township May 23.

ALBANY, Ohio — Alexander FFA held its annual parent-member banquet April 29.
The first award handed out was the Greenhand degree, which the freshman class received. While Greenhand degrees were being handed out, Sharon Bolin presented the FFA creed. Bolin also received the Star Greenhand award, along with Rebecca Zimmerman.
The next award was the Chapter degree, awarded to sophomores.
The CDE awards were also handed out. Jacob Smith was recognized at the state and district for his proficiency in home and community development project.
Caitlyn Mullins and Austin Crabtree were named Outstanding Sophomore award winners; Jed Anderson, Outstanding Junior; and Smith for Dekalb Agricultural accomplishment award.
After all awards were handed out, the 2011 officers installed the new 2012 officers which include: Erin Bright, Crabtree, Maddi Dickerson, Bolin, Anderson, Frank Bail, Mullins, Kacey Davis and Katelyn Smith.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marlington FFA Chapter traveled to Columbus for the Ohio FFA Convention May 3-4.
Highlights from the trip were senior Rebecca Faverty winning the state agricultural processing proficiency award; her application will now be forwarded onto the national level to compete from applications from all across the nation.
Sophomore Brittney Costa received state runner-up for her Outdoor Recreation Proficiency award.
Graduate Amber Shoemaker was named a top 10 student in the state as the District 3 Star State Farmer; she is currently attending the Ohio State University- ATI.
Other accomplishments included seniors Faverty, Brian Jirousek, and Justin Weisent receiving their state FFA degrees.
Also, Brittney Costa received an award for her Gold Rated Treasurer’s book. A few members participated in the State Agri-Science Fair. Brittney Costa and Katie Farnham competed and received a silver rating and Ashley Royer received a bronze.

ASHLAND, Ohio — Ashland FFA President Erica White, a junior at Ashland High School, was elected to the 2012- 2013 Ohio FFA state officer team as the District Two president during the 84th state FFA convention.
Other Ashland FFA members also attended the State FFA Convention, May 3-4, and listened to motivational speakers and met new members from all over Ohio.
Chapter members Bobbi Jo Litten and Erica White received their state degrees during the convention.
The chapter’s team placed fifth at state meats competition during Ohio FFA Convention.
On May 11, 12 Ashland FFA girls had the chance to travel to OSU Main Campus and attend the Sigma Alpha Sorority Promising Young Women’s Conference.
While at the conference, the students also had a session on ag careers network and how to prepare for a job.
On April 27, five Ashland FFA members traveled to OSU-ATI to complete in the state floriculture contest. The team placed 13 out of 24 teams.
Annual banquet. On April 19, the Ashland FFA Chapter held its annual parent/member awards banquet.
During the banquet, the Star Greenhand award was given to Shelby White, and Adam Bell was named top AgriScience I student. The new chapter farmers were inducted, with Daniel Kettering receiving both the Star Chapter Farmer and Top AgriScience II awards.
Junior Erica White received the junior achievement award while Kyle Bell received top Agribuisness I student. Bobbi Jo Litten was named the DeKalb Award winner and top Agribuisness II student.
The Steve Wertz Scholarship was awarded to Bobbi Jo Litten, while Holly Gaubatz received the George Krill Scholarship.
American Degree. The American Degree is one of the top awards that a member can receive; it is given out at National FFA Convention in October. This year Jerad White will be receiving his American Degree on stage in Indianapolis.
Ben Carpenter received the chapter’s honorary member award. He has helped with the chapter’s tree sale, toy show, Ashland invitational, and also helps support our fruit and strawberry sales.
