HANOVERTON, Ohio — Twelve members from the United Local FFA chapter went to Indianapolis for the 85th National FFA Convention Oct. 24-27.
Along with the United FFA chapter, nine students from the Minerva FFA chapter and 12 students from the Southern Local FFA chapter also went.
Two FFA members from United’s chapter received the American FFA Degree: Brittney Bell, graduate of United Local High School, the daughter of Mitch Lacey and Tiffany Poole; and Lucas Mattevi also a graduate of United Local High School, the son of Randy and Carol Mattevi.
Nathan Birkheimer, a graduate of Southern Local High School, also received his American FFA Degree.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Marlington FFA members traveled to Indianapolis for the 85th National FFA Convention.
Members attending included seniors, Antigone Castellucci, Megan Conrad, Haley Faverty, Ashley Foster, Brittany Johnson; juniors, Renea Bennett, Nick Bogunovich, Brittney Costa, Tricia Hoover, Ashley Royer, Miranda White, Chris Young; and sophomore Staci Faverty.
Marlington FFA member Rebecca Faverty was honored as one of the top 4 students in the nation in the agricultural processing proficiency area. Faverty received a plaque and $500 for this honor.

BERLIN, Ohio — The Hiland FFA chapter is running its annual FFA fruit sale fundraiser. Sales are now being taken and will be until Nov. 19. Fruit will come in the week of Dec. 10. The chapter is selling navels, tangelos, tangerines, oranges, red grapefruit, nuts and barbecue sauces. Contact a Hiland FFA member or Ms. Albright at Hiland at 330-893-2626.

WELLINGTON, Ohio At the 85th National FFA convention in October, 3,500 members received their American Degrees and 296 of those members were from Ohio. Wellington FFA member, Ryan Roberts was one of them.
The American Degree is the highest honor that can be bestowed to you from the National FFA Organization. To qualify, the applicant must have received a Greenhand FFA Degree, Chapter FFA Degree and State FFA Degree. In addition, they have had to have been FFA members for at least three years and maintained detailed SAE records. These records demonstrate managerial and financial skills.
Roberts is currently in his junior year at Ohio Christian University, double majoring in organizational leadership and government relations.
The Wellington FFA Chapter is having their annual fruit sale. The group will be selling citrus, red and yellow apples, nuts, fruit baskets and Db Yummers barbecue sauce. The sale ends in Nov. 20. The citrus will come in around Dec. 10 and the fruit baskets will be in around the Dec. 17.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — Aaron Clark and Garret O’Donnell received their American Degrees at the annual FFA convention.
Clark, son of Heidi Truit, Chris and Julie Clark, was one of the four national finalists for the diversified agricultural production. The National FFA organization’s agricultural proficiency awards program recognized outstanding student achievement in agribusiness gained through establishment of a new business working for an existing company or otherwise gaining hands-on career experience.
Clark became eligible for the contest after winning the Ohio state FFA contest earlier this year. He works at Loder Farms and Kick Farms where he is active in both crop and livestock production for the past four years.
Clark did not win the National Proficiency Award, he was awarded with a nine day trip to Costa Rica. On the trip he will tour Costa Rica’s agricultural industry, including bananas, coffee, sugar and pineapple plantations.

ALBANY, Ohio — Eighteen Alexander FFA members and six Federal Hocking FFA members departed for the 85th national FFA convention.
Over the course of the three days the members attended five sessions which included two national officer speakers and three keynote speakers. The chapters also toured the Umbarger feed mill. Umbarger Show Feeds is a fourth generation family owned and operated business used by many cattle, swine, and horse owners. Throughout the rest of the day, members walked through the career show. To end the second day of the trip, members went to an overnight bowling alley. On the last day in Indianapolis, the chapters attended their last session and toured a soldiers and sailors memorial.

ANDOVER, Ohio — Recently, the Pymatuning Valley FFA Chapter had 11 members attend National Convention in Indianapolis.. Former Pymatuning Valley graduate, Erin Smolinski received her American Degree. The chapter is looking forward to next year’s convention in Louisville, Ky. and his hoping to have two members receive their American Degrees next year. Currently, the chapter is fundraising to try to take a large group of about 25 people to next year’s convention.

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA held it’s first Greenhand Conference Oct. 13. In previous years those in FFA would have traveled to Greenhand Camp, a three day camping experience at camp Muskingum, but with the district in a state of fiscal caution Hillsdale High school agriculture teacher Lindsay Bowen knew the school couldn’t pay to transport students to camp. So she brought the camp to the students.
With a team of six volunteers- Hannah Crossen, Julie McNaull, Jeff Stimmell, Brittani Baldner-Hill, Jill Tyson, and Sarah Bookman- the agriculture program was able to give the students in ag a camp like experience.
There was 27 Freshmen in all that attended the conference. They learned about opportunities to participate, team building, goal setting, and leadership activities. They cheered each other on in minute to win style games and they learned everything they would at camp in a shorter time without the camp experience.
