DAMASCUS, Ohio — The first meeting in 2014 for the Circle 62 4-H club was held at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Pierce House in Damascus, Ohio. There were about 35 members in attendance. The meeting began collecting dues and taking orders for books.
Members with at least one year in the group voted for officers for the 2014 year. The group also voted in agreement to donate funds to the Columbiana County Fairgrounds grandstands.
Project talks were given on ducks and chickens by Olivia and Alexia Didick.
The next meeting for Circle 62 is at 10 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Pierce House in Damascus, Ohio.

The Jackson-Milton Livestock Club is a Mahoning County 4-H Club. Currently the group has 68 members in our club mostly from North Jackson, Lake Milton, Berlin Center and Ellsworth. In the spring of last year Lisa Balsinger, an advisor, saw a Cancer Awareness Tree and recommended this as a community service project for our club. The group found a branch with several other branches attached and mounted it as a small tree. The group collected ribbons of various colors that match the colors representing the different types of cancer. Members manned this display at Ag-Land Co-op’s grand reopening, two days at the North Jackson yard sales, and one day in front of a store in Austintown.
As people passed by we asked them if they would like to tie a ribbon on the tree as a remembrance of someone they lost to cancer or someone that was currently fighting cancer. The group did not require anyone that put a ribbon on the tree to donate but it was an option that they had. The tree was used as part of our clubs booth display at the Canfield Fair. The club was able to collect $901.62 from these displays and contributed $298.38 from the club treasury so that we were able to donate a total of $1,200.00 to the American Cancer Society.
Erin Glista from the American Cancer Society and Jen Pemberton, Austintown Relay for Life chairperson, attended the meeting Jan. 15 to accept the check from our club. Glista spoke to the club explaining the different ways the money will be used for further research of cancer and the various programs available to help patients who are going through radiation and chemotherapy and their families.

CANFIELD, Ohio — The Western Reserve Rangers 4-H club congratulated Karen and Bob Day for 25 years of service to the 4-H program during the meeting.
Emily Smith reported that applications for the 2014 Mahoning County fashion board will soon be available on the Mahoning County 4-H website.
Laura Jones and Robin encouraged the youth to register for the 2014 Ohio 4-H Teen Conference in Columbus March 8. Registration forms are available online at the Ohio 4-H website.
Levi Smith invited the teen members to attend the Plow Boy Prom after the conference. Deadline to turn Registration Forms into the County Extension office is Feb. 7.
Quality Assurance Workshops will be March 1 at South Range Schools on state Route 46 . All members with livestock projects and one parent must attend Quality Assurance in order to take an animal to the fair.
Western Reserve Rangers will meet again Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. 4-H enrollment forms must be turned in at this meeting. Election of club officers will also take place at this time.
