NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — The Country Kids & Kritters met July 20 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown.

Club members earning trips to the Ohio State Fair for their projects include: Zack Weikart, Woodworking; Ricky Svetlak, My Favorite Things, Collectibles; Sarah DeLucia, Quilting; Trever Kawecki, Woodworking; Nicole D’Angelo, Alternate, Photography.

County Awards went to: Zack Weikart, Creative Arts; Kristyn Svetlak, Scrapbooking; Rebecca Catlos, My Space; Nicole D’Angelo, Self Determined (Clouds).

Members will be working on the community project during the next few meetings, making care packages for individuals who live at Masternick Memorial in New Middletown and they are donating nonperishable items for the STCCC food pantry.

Members were reminded of several upcoming dates: Aug. 1: 4-6 p.m., goat meeting-vet check at Metroparks Farm; Aug. 4: 7-8:30 p.m., mandatory pocket pet county meeting at Metroparks Farm; Aug. 12: 7:30-9 p.m., rabbit showmanship clinic at Metroparks Farm; Aug. 16: 7:30-9:30 a.m. rabbit skill-a-thon makeup at the Canfield Fairgrounds, Barn 10; 8-10 a.m. rabbit tattoo clinic makeup does & litters only, fairgrounds, Barn 10; Aug. 17: 6-8 p.m., goat handling clinic at Picnic/Barn #4, Metroparks Farm.

The next meetings will be held Aug. 3 and 10 at 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, New Middletown.

HANOVERTON, Ohio —The Hicks and Hayseeds 4-H club of Hanoverton has been putting together a “Merry Christmas” silent auction basket for the Columbiana County Fair.

The basket consists of a 4-foot lighted tree covered with homemade ornaments and scratch off lottery tickets and various other Christmas decorations, including a handmade stained glass candle holder, a hand-stitched Santa & reindeer and a handmade tree skirt.

Their basket, and others, can be seen in the Junior Fair Building during fair week. Bidding on the baskets ends Saturday evening of the fair. Proceeds from the basket auction support the 4-H program county-wide.
