MILLERSBURG, Ohio — The West Holmes FFA participated in the Antique Festival Parade Oct. 6. Fair Queen Mandy Taylor and fair King Clay Armstrong rode in the bed of the truck. The float was awarded best youth float.
On Oct. 5 the West Holmes FFA forestry team competed at Hocking College in Nelsonville.
The team took a general knowledge test an forest business management exam where they completed forestry-related calculations. Then they had field exams where they did tree and leaf identification, map reading and tree disease ID.
They also watched a presentation from Hocking College.
The team consisted of Wyatt Mellor, Jarrod Cain, Terry Medley and Justin Lorentz. Individually Wyatt placed 165th, Jarrod placed 179th, Terry placed 185th and Justin placed 193rd out of 275 competitors. The team placed 34th out of 39 teams.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — Members from the Northwestern FFA chapter picked grapes Oct. 7-8 at Jim Borton’s farm. Over the course of the two days, members were able to harvest 4.5 tons of grapes. They worked from after school until dark on both days to accomplish this task. The Borton’s prepared supper for the members on both days.
Officers from the Northwestern FFA chapter attended officer training Oct. 10 at the Trumbull County Career Center.
Officers who attended from Northwestern FFA were Becca Harbaugh, Zach Berry, Chloe Raff, Jewelia Mowrer, Shannon Garrison, Victoria Devore, Rachelle Howman, Brittany Bunyak, Faith Hudson, Kierstyn Wood, Emily Flinn, Kaci Way, and Tara Benton all attended.

WOOSTER, Ohio — The 2013 rural judging team consisted of 11 Triway FFA members who attended the county soil judging contest. Of the members that participated, the top five were Logan Meier, Megan Gayheart, Savannah Chapman, Corey Myers and Emily Giet. These individuals advanced on to the district level of soil judging.
From the Triway FFA chapter the top five out of 11 were Abigail Renker, Todd Gordon, Travis Dawson, Collin Sigler and Ally Scott. These individuals advanced on to the district level of soil judging.
The top five individuals of Rural and Urban Soils joined as a team in each division. Both placed third overall, with Todd Gordon placing fifth in overall individual standings.
At the State Soil Judging contest the urban soil judging team placed 35th overall out of 47 teams.
The Rural Soil Team placed 42nd out of 47.

MINERVA, Ohio — Minerva FFA fruit sales began Oct. 17 and will end Nov. 19. The chapter is selling navels, tangelos, red grapefruit, mixed citrus boxes (contains: 20 navel oranges 11 red grapefruit), citrus trio (contains: 10 navel oranges, 10 tangelos, 11 red grapefruit), pears, pineapples, red delicious apples, golden delicious apples, granny smith apples, mixed apples, DB’s barbecue sauce, beef, summer sausage and beef sticks and beef jerky.

PLYMOUTH, Ohio — The Plymouth FFA is selling fruit to fund service-learning activities. The sale ends Nov. 15 and delivery will be the week of Dec. 16, in the Agricultural Education Learning Lab.
To purchase fruit, contact an FFA member or drop fruit orders and payment off at the high school before Nov. 15.
The chapter is selling the citrus, pears and fruit baskets, apples, nuts, trail mix, popcorn and barbecue sauce.
You can also make a financial donation to the chapter by sending a check addressed to the Ridgemont FFA to the school.

WATERFORD, Ohio — The Waterford FFA chapter competed in three different soil judging contests that led them to a 10th place overall finish in the state soils contest.
The first contest was the Washington County Soil Judging Contest. The urban team consisted of Richard Canterbury, Dwight Crane, Andrew McCutcheon and Clayton Campbell. Canterbury placed first individually in county.
The rural team consisted of Blake Campbell, Katie Wagner, Derek Huck and Eric Flowers. Campbell placed third individually in county. Both Canterbury and Blake Campbell were recognized at the annual Washington County Soil and Water Banquet Oct. 22.
The second contest was the District 10 Soils Contest, held at Federal Hocking High School. The urban team placed sixth overall out of 20 teams, with Clayton Campbell placing sixth individually out of 80 participants. The rural team placed first overall out of 20 teams, with Derek Huck placing third and Katie Wagner placing fourth individually out of 80 participants.
The urban soil judging team was coached by Kenley Schwendeman. The rural team advanced to the State Soils contest, held Oct. 12 at the Farm Science Review. The Rural team placed 10th overall out of 50 teams. The rural team will be recognized with a plaque for their efforts at the state FFA convention in May.
