Grants target Appalachia in Ohio

COLUMBUS — The Governor’s Office of Appalachia has awarded three local development districts with grants from the State Appalachian Development Program.

Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District (Washington County), Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association (Guernsey County) and the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (Pike County) will use the grants for community and economic development activities.

Recipients

Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District (Washington County) received $137,200 and serves an eight-county region that includes Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry and Washington counties.

Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association (Guernsey County) received $136,500 and serves a 10-county region that includes Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Muskingum and Tuscarawas counties.

The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (Pike County) received $135,000 and serves an 11-county region that includes Adams, Brown, Clermont, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton counties.

The State Appalachian Development Grants provide funding for projects that improve the standard of living for residents of Ohio’s 32 Appalachian counties.

  1. Who will actually benefit by these grants? Paper-pushing smart-alec bureaucrats at some fancy-pants office building, or the poor people who need jobs, education, and a chance to succeed? Sorry…I’ve had a belly full of gobmint programs of every stripe which usually enrich some do-gooders making them “feel better” about themselves, but accomplish precious little on the ground level of problem-solving.
